Tall Pine Roofing repairs roofs throughout southern New Hampshire and southern Maine — leaks, failed flashing, storm damage, missing shingles, and the damage left behind by ice dams. We are family-owned, based at 43 North Road in Deerfield, fully insured, Google Guaranteed, and an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor.
Not every roof problem needs a new roof. A good share of what we are called out for is genuinely repairable, and when that is the case we will say so.
Have an Active Leak?
Tell us when you call that water is coming in — it changes how we prioritise the visit.
While you wait: put something down to catch the water and move anything that matters. If a ceiling is bulging, a small hole at the lowest point lets the water drain in a controlled way instead of bringing the whole section down. Photograph everything before you clean up, in case there is an insurance claim. And please do not go up on the roof yourself — more people are hurt getting onto a wet or icy roof than by the leak itself.
What We Repair
- Flashing failures — around chimneys, in valleys, against walls and dormers. This is where the majority of leaks actually start, not in the middle of a shingle field.
- Chimney and skylight leaks — step flashing, counter flashing, crickets and skylight seals.
- Missing or lifted shingles after wind, including resealing slopes where the adhesive strip has let go.
- Ridge cap and drip edge damage on exposed elevations.
- Vent boots and penetrations — cracked rubber boots around plumbing vents are a common and easily fixed leak source.
- Ice dam damage — repairing what backed-up water damaged, and addressing why it happened. See our ice dam removal and prevention page.
- Rotted sheathing and decking discovered beneath a long-running leak.
- Flat and low-slope roof repairs — seams, flashings and penetrations on EPDM and TPO membrane systems.
- Gutter and drainage issues causing water to run behind the fascia.
Finding the Leak Is Most of the Job
Water rarely enters the roof directly above the stain on your ceiling. It gets through at a flashing or a nail penetration, travels along the underside of the deck or down a rafter, and drops somewhere else entirely — sometimes several feet away, sometimes on the other side of a room.
That is why we inspect the attic as well as the roof surface. Following the staining back to where the water actually enters is what separates a repair that holds from one that gets patched again next spring. If someone quotes you a repair without going into the attic or asking where the stain appears, be a little cautious.
Repair or Replace? The Honest Version
This is the question most people are really asking, and the answer is not always the one that is better for us.
| A repair usually makes sense when… | Replacement is usually the better value when… |
|---|---|
| The damage is localised — one slope, one flashing, one penetration | Shingles are curling or losing granules across the whole roof |
| The rest of the roof still has years of life in it | The sealant strips have let go on entire slopes, so wind keeps taking shingles |
| The cause is a detail that was done poorly, not age | You are repairing the same roof repeatedly, season after season |
| Storm damage is confined to an area | There is widespread deck damage from long-term water intrusion |
| You need a few more years before a planned replacement | The roof is past its service life and a repair only buys one winter |
If you are weighing it up, our article on the signs you need a new roof walks through what to look for yourself. And if replacement does turn out to be the answer, we cover that under residential roofing, with $0-down financing available so timing is not dictated by the month it happens in.
Storm Damage and Insurance
After a wind event we get a lot of calls, and some of that damage is claimable. Photograph everything before any work happens, including debris on the ground and any interior damage, and check your own policy for deductible and reporting deadlines.
We will document what we find and give you a written scope you can submit. We are not public adjusters and we will not tell you a claim is certain to be approved — that is between you and your insurer. What we can do is make sure the damage is recorded properly and the repair is specified correctly.
A word of caution that has nothing to do with winning your business: after big storms, out-of-state crews appear in New Hampshire and Maine offering immediate roof work. Some are fine. Some are gone by spring, along with any warranty. Check that whoever you hire is insured, local enough to come back, and willing to put the scope in writing.
What Affects Repair Cost
Repairs vary too much for an honest number over the phone, but these are what move it:
- Access and pitch — a steep or tall roof needs staging and fall protection, which takes longer than a walkable slope.
- What is underneath — rotted sheathing found once the area is opened adds material and labour.
- Matching existing shingles — on an older roof, an exact colour match may not exist any more.
- How many problems there are — three separate flashing repairs is a different job from one.
Estimates are free and carry no obligation.
Roof Repair FAQs
Can You Repair My Roof in Winter?
Often yes, particularly for leaks that cannot wait. Cold weather does limit some work — shingle sealant strips need warmth to bond, so certain repairs are better done as temporary protection now and completed properly in spring. We will tell you which category yours falls into rather than doing cold-weather work that will not hold.
Will the Repair Match My Existing Shingles?
We get as close as the market allows, but an exact match on an older roof is often impossible — colours are discontinued, and shingles weather over time so even the same product no longer matches. On a visible slope we will show you what the difference will look like before we start. If appearance matters a great deal, that is sometimes an argument for replacement rather than repair.
Is the Repair Guaranteed?
We stand behind our work, and we will be clear in writing about what the repair covers before we start. Worth understanding the distinction: our 25-year transferable workmanship guarantee applies to full roof installations. A repair on an ageing roof is a different proposition — we are fixing one area of a system that is wearing out as a whole, and we will tell you honestly what that means for how long it should hold.
How Soon Can You Come Out?
Active leaks get priority over routine estimates. We are based in Deerfield and work across Rockingham, Merrimack and Strafford counties and into southern Maine, so most of our service area is a short drive rather than an expedition. Mention on the first call that water is coming in and we will treat it accordingly.
